Finding Serenity in a Changing World
Imagine a breathtakingly beautiful place, untouched by the chaos of everyday life. It could be a tranquil beach under the soft glow of the moon, a majestic mountain range, or a serene creek surrounded by lush greenery. But no matter how idyllic these settings may seem, they are all subject to change.
The Impermanence of Peace
Weather can disrupt the serenity of even the most peaceful places. Natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes can ravage the earth, leaving destruction in their wake. Human progress can also have a devastating impact on the environment, causing irreparable harm to our planet. Even if the scenery remains intact, our emotions can taint our perception of it. Anger, depression, and anxiety can cloud our minds, making it impossible to appreciate the beauty around us.
A Peace that Transcends Understanding
In the midst of chaos, there is a peace that remains constant, eternal, and unmoving. This peace, as described by Paul in Philippians 4:7, surpasses all understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. It is a solid foundation that remains unshakeable, even in times of turmoil. This peace is not of this world; it is Heaven-sent.
Anchoring Our Hearts in Faith
This unwavering peace can only be found by anchoring our hearts, minds, and souls in the living waters of our faith in God. It is not affected by the ever-changing world around us, because it is rooted in something greater than ourselves. In John 16:33, Jesus said, “…in me you can have peace.” This peace is not fleeting; it is eternal.
A Choice to Make
We are faced with a choice: to bask in the fleeting peace of the world or to anchor ourselves in the eternal peace of God. The first may bring temporary joy, but it can be gone in an instant. The latter, however, provides eternal access to peace, no matter what circumstances we face. Which will you choose?
