The Power of Remembering: A Key to Gratitude and Hope
As humans, we’re prone to forgetting – and it’s a problem that’s plagued us since biblical times. In Psalm 106, Israel’s spiritual downfall began with forgetting God’s kindnesses and miracles. This forgetfulness led to discontent, disobedience, and eventually, a downward spiral into sin.
The Importance of Remembering God’s Blessings
I’ve learned to combat forgetfulness by using calendars, reminders, and sticky notes to keep track of important dates and tasks. But when it comes to remembering God’s blessings, I’ve found that a gratitude journal is an invaluable tool. By recording God’s faithful workings in my life, I’m able to anchor my blessings and reflect on them later with gratitude and hope.
A Heart of Gratitude
When I re-read my journal entries, I’m always amazed at God’s consistent presence and provision in my life. It fills my heart with thankfulness and confidence in His faithfulness. I’m reminded that just as God has been with me in the past, He will continue to be with me in the future.
Starting Your Own Gratitude Journey
If you don’t already have a gratitude journal, I encourage you to start one today. Record God’s blessings, no matter how small they may seem. You’ll be doubly blessed as you read about them later and reflect on God’s goodness.
A Prayer of Thanksgiving
Father, I thank you that you delight to bless your people, and your compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22,23). May we remember your kindnesses and miracles, and may our hearts be filled with gratitude and hope.
