The Hidden Thorn: Uncovering the Source of Pain
As I reflect on Jesus’ words in John 14:21, “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him,” I am reminded of a personal experience that sheds light on our relationship with God.
A Mysterious Discomfort
During the warmer months, I wore a particular shirt to work, but each time I did, I felt a stinging sensation in my back. At first, I thought it was something catching on my suspenders, but after ruling out that possibility, I was left with a nagging mystery.
The Quest for Answers
I tried to pinpoint the cause, wondering if it was a spot, growth, or wrinkle in the shirt’s center pleat. After several attempts, I decided to investigate further. Using a ruler and mirror, I finally discovered the culprit: a tiny piece of hard green plastic hidden inside the fabric’s weave. It was likely a shard from a label caught in the machine during manufacturing.
A Lesson in Spiritual Reflection
As I removed the plastic splinter and remedied the shirt, I couldn’t help but draw parallels with our relationship with God. Just as the shirt was flawed and caused me discomfort, our sinful nature can cause pain to a God who loves us. However, through prayer and supplication, Jesus’ love and grace can remove these causes of pain, allowing God to regain a pleasing disciple.
A Heartfelt Prayer
Lord, we acknowledge our flaws and the pain they cause You. Forgive us for our past mistakes and sanctify us through Jesus’ blood. May the Holy Spirit guide us, and may we walk with You once more, granting us Your peace because You love us. Amen.
