Finding Eternal Balance in Life’s Struggles
When we’re faced with life’s challenges, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The weight of our problems can seem crushing, like a heavy burden that’s impossible to bear. But what if we could shift our perspective? What if we could see that our struggles are not the defining factor in our lives?
The Pan Scale of Faith
The apostle Paul reminds us that “our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17, NKJV). This image brings to mind the ancient pan scale, where weights are carefully balanced to determine value. In a similar way, God balances our struggles against the weight of eternal glory.
The Burdens We Carry
On one side of the scale, we place our burdens: the famines, firings, and forgotten moments. We add the weight of bad breaks, bad health, and bad days. The scale tips heavily, and it’s easy to feel hopeless. But then, God responds. He doesn’t remove our burdens, but rather, he offsets them with an eternal weight of glory.
Eternal Joy and Peace
This weight of glory is not just a fleeting feeling; it’s an endless, measureless peace that transcends our current circumstances. It’s the promise of eternity with God, where every struggle becomes insignificant in comparison. When we weigh our burdens against eternity, everything changes. The heavy becomes light, and we’re able to endure even the toughest challenges.
A Moment in Time
If life is just a moment, can’t we endure any challenge for that moment? We can be sick, lonely, persecuted, or struggling, but it’s only for a moment. Can’t we wait for our peace, knowing that it’s not about us or our current situation? It’s about the eternal weight of glory that awaits us.
Shifting Our Focus
So let’s shift our focus away from our struggles and towards the eternal. Let’s remember that our burdens are not the defining factor in our lives. Instead, it’s the weight of glory that gives our lives meaning and purpose. And when we keep our eyes fixed on eternity, we’ll find the strength to endure even the toughest challenges.
