Anchored in God’s Unshakeable Promises

Unwavering Promises in Uncertain Times

As we navigate life’s unpredictable journey, it’s essential to anchor ourselves to the unshakeable promises of God. In 2 Peter 1:4, we’re reminded that “because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises…” These promises serve as a beacon of hope, guiding us through life’s storms.

A Lesson from the Weather

Recently, I experienced a unexpected twist in the weather forecast. After weeks of scorching heat, a cold front was predicted to bring relief. But when I checked the newspaper, I was surprised to see that the high temperature was expected to reach 86 degrees – a far cry from the mid-60s I had been told to expect. I couldn’t help but wonder if someone had made a mistake. Perhaps the person responsible for verifying the information had doubted the forecast, thinking it was too good to be true. This minor error might have been amusing, but it highlights a crucial lesson: we often do the same thing with God’s promises.

The Danger of Altering God’s Promises

When God says, “I will never leave or forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5), we might add our own conditions, thinking, “He must mean He’ll be with me when everything is going well.” Or, when He promises, “My peace I give you” (John 14:27), we might wonder if His peace is reserved for more faithful followers when our world is turned upside down by challenges like cancer, earthquakes, or spiritual deserts. But we must not alter God’s promises to fit our circumstances.

The Unchanging Nature of God

God’s word can be trusted, and His nature is unchanging. He is eternally believable. We must not doubt His promises or adjust them to suit our feelings or experiences. Instead, we should cling to them, knowing that they are the anchor that holds us fast in the midst of life’s turbulent seas.
