Embracing Boldness in Our Faith
A Chance Encounter
I met a friend at Starbucks, a rare opportunity to connect in person. As we caught up, our conversation naturally turned to what God was teaching us lately. My friend shared her requests, and I suggested we pray together. With open eyes, I quietly asked God to meet her needs. We chatted some more, and then she offered to pray for me. Her passionate prayer, with eyes closed and hands grasping mine, caught me off guard. I felt a twinge of embarrassment, wishing she would pray more discreetly.
A Humbling Revelation
Shortly after, God placed a book in my path that challenged my own hesitation. I realized I was, in essence, denying Christ. Peter’s denial of Jesus came to mind, and I wondered how easily I could do the same. During my devotions, I read Hebrews 10:38-39, which struck a chord: “But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.” I was surprised to find myself in a similar position as Peter, yet without any real threat to my faith or life.
Growing in Boldness
God’s goodness revealed the true nature of my heart, even when I thought I was being faithful. It’s a challenge to grow in boldness as we follow our Lord and Savior. Today, whether you’re a quiet Christian, a bold witness, or somewhere in between, I invite you to join me in asking God to fill you with greater boldness and courage to stand firm in persevering faith. We never know when we’ll be called upon to stand firm in this world.
A Prayer for Courage
Heavenly Father, forgive me for shrinking back when You call me to boldness. May my heart be ever more courageous to stand for You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
