Unconventional Jesus: Embracing the Unexpected

The Unpredictable Nature of Jesus

Jesus never fails to surprise us. He operates on a different wavelength, one that defies our attempts to pigeonhole Him. Take, for example, the account of the blind man in John 9:6-7. In a bold move, Jesus spits on the ground, mixes it with saliva, and applies the mud to the man’s eyes. Then, He instructs the man to wash in the Pool of Siloam. This unconventional approach is a far cry from what we might expect from the Son of God.

Challenging Our Assumptions

The truth is, Jesus is not bound by our expectations. Rather, we are subject to His expectations of us. He doesn’t conform to our preconceived notions of how He should behave. Sometimes, He may heal with a mere word; other times, He may take a more unorthodox approach, like using mud to restore sight. What remains consistent, however, is His unwavering commitment to fulfilling the will of the Father.

Embracing the Unexpected

This unpredictability can be both fascinating and unsettling. It forces us to reexamine our assumptions about Jesus and His ways. By doing so, we open ourselves up to a deeper understanding of His nature and character. As we surrender to His expectations, we may find ourselves on a journey of discovery, one that leads us to a more authentic, more intimate relationship with Him.

A Call to Surrender

So, let us not try to fit Jesus into our neat little boxes. Instead, let us surrender to His unexpected ways, even when they challenge our understanding. For it is in embracing the unpredictable nature of Jesus that we may discover the true depths of His love and power.
