The Power of Open Eyes
As humans, we’re prone to stubbornness, and the Bible reminds us that this trait is nothing new. Even followers of Jesus, like Cleopas and his companion, can struggle to grasp the truth.
A Walk to Emmaus
After Jesus’ resurrection, these two disciples walked to Emmaus, discussing the extraordinary events that had unfolded in Jerusalem. Despite having heard Jesus’ teachings and being aware of the latest news, they failed to understand the bigger picture. Their eyes were not yet open to the full truth.
A Divine Intervention
Thankfully, Jesus didn’t leave them in the dark. He intervened, explaining the Scriptures and revealing Himself to them. As they neared Emmaus, Jesus acted as if He would continue on His way, but they begged Him to stay. As they shared a meal together, Jesus broke bread, and suddenly, their eyes were opened. They recognized Him, and in that moment, He vanished.
A Lesson in Humility
This encounter serves as a reminder that we, too, can be hard-headed about what we believe to be true. The world is skilled at distorting facts, leading to endless debates and confusion. Let us not be fooled. Instead, let Jesus open our eyes to His glory and the truth of what He has done for us.
A Prayer for Clarity
May Jesus fill us with His grace, granting us peace and rest in our lives. May we follow His Spirit, alive and active within us, and may He open our eyes to His glory. Lord, we pray that You would carry us, lift us out of darkness, and fill us with Your light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
