“Feasting on Love: 4 Unforgettable Expressions of Devotion to Jesus”

A Feast of Love

Six days before His crucifixion, Jesus returned to the village where His heart felt most at home. This was His final Sabbath, the first day of His last week on earth. And He chose to spend it surrounded by those who cherished Him deeply.

A Supper of Honor

Simon, the Leper, whom Jesus had healed, hosted a supper in His honor. Despite knowing the danger that loomed over Jesus’ head, Simon boldly expressed his love for Him. The religious leaders had instructed that anyone aware of Jesus’ whereabouts was to report it, yet Simon refused to be intimidated.

A Table of Devotion

Martha, true to her nature, served at the supper. Her actions were a testament to her love for Christ and her desire to honor Him. Lazarus, too, was present, his very existence a living example of God’s power. Though he didn’t utter a word, his presence spoke volumes.

A Sacrificial Act

But it was Mary who stole the show with a demonstration of love that couldn’t be ignored. She anointed the Lord with expensive ointment, filling the room with its fragrance. Jesus praised her act, not because it was necessary for His burial, but because of the love that motivated it.

The Heart of the Matter

As Brother Lawrence so eloquently put it, “God, needing nothing, considers in our works ONLY the love that accompanies them.” Mary’s sacrifice was recorded as a memorial to her, and it continues to inspire us today.

Four Expressions of Love

That evening, four individuals expressed their love for Jesus in unique ways, without saying a word. Simon, Martha, Lazarus, and Mary each showed their devotion to Him. And what’s most important to remember about them is what they did to honor Him at that supper.

A Legacy of Love

The same thing Jesus wants us to remember about our own lives: what we do to show our love and devotion to Him. As we reflect on this poignant scene, may we be inspired to demonstrate our love for Jesus in our own unique ways, just as these four individuals did.
