Measuring Spiritual Growth: A Journey of Transformation
As Christians, we strive to become more like Jesus, reflecting His character and values in our daily lives. But how do we measure our progress? In the business world, entrepreneurs track financial performance to ensure success, while supervisors monitor employee growth to foster a positive work environment. Similarly, God desires to see His children flourish and mature in their faith.
The Blueprint for Spiritual Growth
The apostle Peter provides a roadmap for spiritual development, urging us to “make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love” (2 Peter 1:5-7). This progression from faith to love is a lifelong journey, requiring dedication and perseverance.
Empowered by God’s Provision
While employers may offer training sessions and seminars to enhance employee growth, God provides everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). The Apostle Paul reminds us that “God is at work within you, helping you want to obey him, and then helping you do what he wants” (Philippians 2:13). This divine empowerment enables us to overcome obstacles and pursue spiritual maturity.
Assessing Our Progress
So, how’s your spiritual journey? Are you satisfied with the status quo, or are you actively seeking to grow in your faith? Take a moment to reflect on your progress, and ask God to forgive you for any complacency or comparisons to others.
A Prayer for Spiritual Growth
Dear Father, thank you for providing everything we need to grow spiritually. Forgive us for being too easily satisfied with our current state, or measuring ourselves by others. Help us to focus on our personal journey of transformation, and empower us to become more like Jesus.
