Sowing Tears, Reaping Joy
The Bible promises that when we share the Good News of salvation with a heavy heart, we will reap a harvest of joy. But have you ever stopped to consider what sparks this compassion within us? Psalm 126:5-6 reminds us that “they that sow in tears shall reap in joy” – a divine formula that requires a burdened heart and a willingness to share the precious seed of God’s Word.
The Heart of God
Compassion for the souls of men originates in the heart of God. It’s not something we can manufacture or work up on our own; rather, it’s a natural byproduct of walking in the fullness and power of the Holy Spirit, with minds and hearts saturated with the Word of God. When we’re controlled and empowered by the Spirit, we’ll experience a deep longing to see others come to know Christ.
A Divine Formula
The Old Testament is filled with references to sowing, often accompanied by sorrow and anxiety. But when we obey God’s call to share the Gospel, we can be assured that our efforts will be met with inexpressible joy. Proverbs 11:27-31 reminds us that those who seek good will find joy, while those who search for evil will be filled with anxiety.
A Prayer for Compassion
Today, I invite you to join me in asking the Holy Spirit to give you a greater burden for the souls of those around you. May we weep genuine tears of compassion as we go forth, sharing the precious seed of God’s Word. I know that as we do, we’ll reap abundantly and experience the supernatural joy that comes to those who obey God.
Ambassadors of Christ
As followers of Christ, we’re called to be His ambassadors, caring enough to tell others about Him. Will you join me in praying for a greater sense of compassion and urgency to share the Good News with those who need it most? Together, let’s reap a harvest of joy as we sow tears of compassion and share the love of Christ with a world in need.
