Discovering God’s Plan for Your Life
As followers of Christ, we all share a deep desire to obey God’s will for our lives. We know that He has a unique plan for each of us, one that is tailored to bring us joy and fulfillment. So, why doesn’t God simply reveal His plan to us in clear, unmistakable terms?
The Fear of Uncertainty
Instead of receiving a detailed roadmap, we’re often left wondering what step to take next. It’s easy to get stuck in a holding pattern, waiting for a clear sign from God before taking action. But this inaction is often rooted in fear rather than piety. We may be hesitant to move forward because we’re unsure of the outcome or afraid of what God might be asking us to do.
A Biblical Pattern
However, the Bible reveals a different pattern. Time and again, God calls individuals to take a step of faith, and only then does He reveal the next stage of His plan. Consider the example of Abram in Genesis 12, who was instructed to “go to the land that I will show you.” The destination was only revealed later.
The Power of Obedience
So, how can we start walking in obedience to God’s will? The answer lies in taking small steps of faith, trusting that God will guide us along the way. When we focus on doing the basic things God has asked us to do, we can be confident that we’re headed in the right direction.
The Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruit of the Spirit, including love, joy, peace, and self-control. As we actively pursue these qualities, we can rest assured that we’re aligning ourselves with God’s will. There is no law against these things, and they will guide us as we navigate life’s uncertainties.
Using Your Gifts for God
What’s in your hands? Do you have a particular skill or talent that can be used for God’s glory? Perhaps you’re an excellent financial planner, a gifted horse rider, or a warm and welcoming host. Whatever it is, ask God to show you how to use it for His purposes. Remember, God created each of us for the good works He planned in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10).
Walking Forward in Faith
As you take steps of obedience, remember that God is with you every step of the way. Pursue the fruit of the Spirit, use your gifts for God’s glory, and trust that He will reveal His plan for your life in due time. There’s nowhere to go but up!
A Prayer for Courage
Father, give me the courage to start walking. Remind me that You will come with me and that You know the way, even when I can’t see it. Amen.
Reflection Questions
What holds you back from taking steps of faith when God calls? Have there been times when you stepped out in faith and saw God’s plan unfold? What did you learn from those experiences?
