Overcoming the Fear of Man: Unlocking Bold Evangelism

Breaking Free from the Fear of Man

As Christians, we’re called to share the Good News with others, but often, fear holds us back. One delegate at a lay institute for evangelism confessed his reluctance to share his faith with others, fearing the unknown. I reassured him that it was an optional assignment, but encouraged him to observe a seasoned Christian in action, promising he would learn and gain confidence.

Despite his initial hesitation, he took the leap of faith and accompanied a more mature Christian on an outreach mission. The outcome was nothing short of miraculous – two people came to know Christ, and the delegate returned radiating joy, gratitude, and praise to God. He thanked me profusely for nudging him out of his comfort zone, acknowledging that he would have missed a life-changing experience had he not taken the step.

The Paralyzing Fear of Man

This fear is the number one obstacle to witnessing in the Christian life. It’s ironic that we’re more concerned about offending people than disobeying God, despite the potential consequences to our spiritual well-being. The Bible reminds us 365 times to “fear not,” yet we allow the fear of man to hold us back from sharing the Gospel.

A Timeless Solution

Martin Luther’s timeless wisdom offers a solution to this crippling fear: trusting in God’s sovereignty and His promise to triumph through us. As we place our trust in Him, the indwelling Holy Spirit empowers us to share the Gospel with confidence, knowing that He prepares the hearts of those we reach out to.

Today’s Resolve

With God’s help, I will boldly share His love and forgiveness with others, confident that He will enable me and prepare the hearts of those I encounter.

Further Reflection

Proverbs 29:19-24 reminds us of the importance of trusting in God’s guidance and provision as we share His message with others. May we press forward, unshackled by the fear of man, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to spread the Good News.
