Embracing the Art of Patience
Life’s Challenging Relationships
Have you ever felt frustrated with someone in your life, thinking “You mean I have to put up with that!?” We’ve all been there – dealing with individuals who test our patience and push us to our limits. The old adage rings true: “They are the grit out of which we are to fashion our pearl.” But how do we respond to these challenging relationships?
Jesus: Our Ultimate Role Model
We need look no further than Jesus, our greatest example of patience and gentleness. Think about the 12 disciples he had to work with – each with their own unique set of flaws and weaknesses. Yet, Jesus’ transformational patience and kindness towards them were unwavering. His response to their shortcomings was not anger or frustration, but rather love, compassion, and understanding.
Rising to the Challenge
Can we dare to be less patient, less loving, and less gentle than Jesus? The answer is clear. As we strive to emulate his example, we must ask ourselves: What would Jesus do in this situation? How would he respond to this person’s flaws and shortcomings?
A Prayer for Strength
As we navigate life’s challenging relationships, let us pray for the strength and patience to respond with love and kindness. May we echo the words of this heartfelt prayer: “Give me strength and patience, O God, that I may be as loving, gentle, and patient with others as you have been with me. Through Jesus my Lord and hero I pray. Amen.”
