The Power of Devoted Prayer
Finding Time for Intimate Connection
Have you ever wondered how to fit prayer into your busy schedule? The hymn “Sweet Hour of Prayer” often comes to mind, but can we really spare an entire hour for prayer? Jesus’ words to His sleeping disciples resonate deeply: “Could you not watch with me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40). Christ Himself spent countless hours communing with His Father, even after long days of healing and teaching.
A Model for Prayer
Jesus knew the Father’s heart, His will, and His grief. He rejoiced in the things that brought God joy. This was only possible because He prayed. As both God and man, Jesus demonstrated the importance of prayer in His life. If He, with His divine nature, needed to pray, how much more do we?
A Challenge to Prioritize Prayer
What if we committed to just 30 minutes of prayer this week? My guess is that we’ll find it so life-giving that we’ll soon want to double our time. We’ll transform from hummers of the hymn to joyful singers, reveling in the sweetness of communion with God.
The Blessings of Prayer
In times of distress and grief, prayer brings relief and escape from temptation. As we seek God’s face, we can trust His word and grace, casting our cares upon Him. The sweetness of prayer is not just a feeling, but a deep connection with our loving Father.
Embracing the Sweetness of Prayer
Let us make time for prayer, even if it’s just a half hour. Let us believe God’s word, trust His grace, and wait for the sweetness of prayer to transform our lives. As we do, we’ll find that our petitions are borne on the wings of prayer, and our souls will be blessed by the waiting God.
