Embracing Childlike Faith: Trusting in God’s Unwavering Love

Embracing Childlike Faith

As we navigate life’s challenges, it’s easy to lose sight of the simplicity and trust that defines childhood. Yet, it’s precisely this kind of faith that Jesus desires from us. In Matthew 14:28-29, Peter exemplifies this trust when he asks Jesus to command him to walk on water, and Jesus responds with a simple “Come.”

Trusting in Unwavering Love

My personal experience with my 18-month-old daughter, Zoe, has taught me the value of gentle guidance and unconditional love. When my wife Caroline sets boundaries, Zoe quickly learns to respect them, demonstrating her growing trust in our judgment. This trust is built on the foundation of our unwavering love and care for her.

Stepping Out in Faith

As Zoe learns to navigate the world around her, she’s becoming more confident in her abilities. She can now shuffle down the stairs with the aid of a helping parent, and occasionally, I’ll offer her a “carry” just to savor the joy of holding her close. One day, I beckoned her to come to me, and she ran towards me with unbridled enthusiasm, trusting that I would catch her. And I did.

Jesus’ Unconditional Embrace

This experience reminded me of Jesus’ desire to receive us with the same childlike faith. He delights in our determination to come to Him, no matter the circumstances. When we step out in faith, He’s always ready to catch us, hold us close, and lift us up.

A Prayer for Unwavering Trust

Lord, Your love for us is eternal and surpasses human comprehension. Forgive us when we doubt Your love or question Your ability to catch us when we fall. Help us to trust in Your unwavering love, even in the face of worldly appearances and the Devil’s lies. In Jesus’ name, amen.
