Rediscovering the Power of Scripture
As I embarked on an ambitious journey to read the New Testament in just eight weeks, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. How would I fit it into my already packed schedule? But little did I know, this challenge would become a blessing in disguise.
A Fresh Perspective
The Bible we’re using has been formatted to read like a story, without chapter and verse marks. The books are arranged by author, with Luke and Acts being the first ones we tackled. This unique approach has allowed me to see the Word of God in a new and exciting way. Nothing has been added or removed from the original text, but the fresh format has breathed new life into my understanding of Scripture.
Uncovering Hidden Gems
This week, we delved into the book of Luke. I had previously copied the entire book by hand, so I wasn’t expecting to discover anything new. But God’s Word is full of surprises. A familiar passage in Luke 2:41-49 jumped out at me, piercing my heart with its timeless message.
A Lesson from Jesus’ Childhood
The story takes place when Jesus is just 12 years old. He travels to Jerusalem with his parents, only to get separated from them in the chaos of a large family gathering. After three days of searching, Mary and Joseph finally find him in the temple courts, engaging with the teachers and asking questions. Jesus’ response to his parents’ concern is often misunderstood as disrespect. However, I realized that his parents had forgotten who their Son truly was. They had witnessed the miraculous events surrounding his birth, but over time, they had lost sight of His divine nature.
A Mirror to My Soul
As I reflected on this passage, I couldn’t help but wonder if I’ve made the same mistake. Do I often forget who God is and what He has done in my life? Do I seek Him out only as a last resort, instead of turning to Him first? The answer was convicting. I realized that I need to reorient my priorities, putting prayer and communion with God at the forefront of my life.
A Call to Reflection
As I continue on this journey through the New Testament, I invite you to join me in reflecting on your own relationship with God. Have you lost sight of His power and presence in your life? Take a moment to re-examine your priorities and seek Him out with renewed passion and purpose.
