Embracing the Cross: The Path to True Fruitfulness
In a world that often celebrates self-preservation and success, Jesus’ words in John 12:23-27 can be jarring: “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone: but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” This paradoxical truth reveals that true fulfillment and purpose can only be found through surrender and sacrifice.
The Lonely Journey to the Cross
While we may have been positionally crucified with Christ, there is a deeper experience of this reality available to those who hunger for Him. Jesus invites us on a personal journey to the cross, where He strips away our dependencies and self-deceptions, revealing our true nature. This lonely path is not one we take with others, but with Jesus alone.
Breaking Free from Self-Centeredness
At the cross, our self-centeredness, inadequacy, and failures are laid bare. It’s a place of brokenness, but one that’s necessary for growth. If we cling to our lives and refuse to surrender, we’ll remain stagnant, like an unplanted grain of wheat. But those who willingly die to themselves will produce an abundance of spiritual fruit.
God’s Desire for Our Lives
God’s desire goes beyond our initial salvation; He wants to accomplish more through us. Are you willing to take the road to the cross with Him, despite the pain and uncertainty? The rewards in this life and eternity far outweigh any suffering we may experience.
Getting Back on Track
Are you ready to stop being content with your current state and invite God to direct your life? Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, and pray this simple prayer: “Dear Father, I need you. I acknowledge my sin and invite Christ to take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit, as You promised in Your Word.”
Taking the First Step
Will you take the first step towards a deeper experience of God’s presence in your life? Pray this prayer, and trust God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. If you’ve prayed this prayer, we’d love to hear about it and provide resources to help you discover more about the Spirit-led life.
