Cultivating Patience: A Shift in Perspective

The Eternity Perspective: A Lesson in Patience

As I reflect on my recent experiences, I’ve come to realize that I’ve been struggling with impatience. It’s a feeling that can creep up on me at any moment, especially when I’m stuck in traffic. Just the other day, I found myself frustrated and anxious, waiting for what felt like an eternity to make a left turn.

The Power of Reflection

As I sat at the intersection, I began to ponder a profound question: “Does it really matter in light of eternity?” This simple yet powerful query shifted my focus away from my immediate frustration and towards a broader perspective. I started to pray for the people in the truck ahead of me, and suddenly, time seemed to fly by. Before I knew it, I was able to make the turn and arrive home in no time.

A Habitual Mindset

As I look back on my life, I realize that I’ve often been driven by a sense of busyness. Whether it was raising children, managing a farm, caring for sick parents, or serving in full-time ministry, there always seemed to be something demanding my attention. While those seasons of life were incredibly fulfilling, they also instilled in me a habit of hurry. Even now, as my life has slowed down, I sometimes forget to appreciate the simplicity and beauty of each day.

A Prayer for Patience

Lord, I confess that I often get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Help me to slow down, to be calm, and to relax in your presence. I need your Holy Spirit to guide me, producing patience in every moment of my day. As I navigate the ups and downs of life, remind me to keep eternity in mind, and to prioritize the people and relationships that truly matter.
