As I reflect on my childhood, I’m reminded of the profound impact my parents had on my spiritual journey. Growing up, my father, a devoted missionary, would gather our family together to share his personal struggles and shortcomings. He believed that honesty and transparency were essential in maintaining a strong relationship with God and with us, his family. By doing so, he demonstrated a deep reverence for God, acknowledging that even the smallest acts of disobedience could grieve the Holy Spirit.
This practice not only instilled in me a sense of security and refuge but also inspired me to follow in his footsteps as a missionary. My father’s example showed me that true leadership is not about projecting perfection but about humility, vulnerability, and a willingness to learn from mistakes.
In today’s world, where young people often struggle to find stability and guidance, Christian parents have a unique opportunity to provide a sense of security and refuge for their families. By modeling honesty, humility, and a deep reverence for God, we can create an environment where our children feel safe to share their own struggles and doubts.
As I read through Proverbs 14:15-21, I’m reminded of the importance of seeking wisdom and understanding God’s attributes. My prayer today is that God will grant me a deeper understanding of His character, so I can provide refuge and security to those who look to me for leadership.
What about you? Will you join me in praying for wisdom and humility, that we may become the leaders our families need, and that our children may grow up with a sense of security and refuge in God?
