Embracing the Power of Obedience
As I sat beside my dad’s hospital bed, cherishing every moment with him, I couldn’t help but reflect on the journey that had brought us to this point. Just a year prior, the Holy Spirit had whispered a gentle nudge in my heart, urging me to reconnect with my father. It was a call to prioritize our relationship, to carve out time amidst the chaos of daily life.
Growing up, our family was always on the go. With four kids, a household to manage, and a thriving poultry farm, it seemed like we only caught glimpses of each other during holidays and birthdays. I often found myself stuck in the kitchen, cooking up a storm, while my dad was busy tending to his many responsibilities. We rarely had a chance to truly connect, just the two of us.
But that subtle prompting from the Holy Spirit changed everything. I reached out to my dad, suggesting we meet for lunch once a month. To my delight, he agreed, and our monthly dates became a treasured ritual. At first, the conversations felt stilted, but as the months flew by, we began to look forward to our time together, sharing stories and laughter.
Little did I know that those precious moments would become a bittersweet memory. Just two days after our hospital visit, my dad passed away, leaving me with a sense of gratitude for having heeded the Holy Spirit’s call. I had obeyed, and in doing so, I had created a treasure trove of memories with my father.
As I look back, I realize that obedience is not just about following rules; it’s about embracing the whispers of our hearts, the gentle nudges that guide us toward deeper connections and meaningful relationships. So I ask you, dear reader, have you taken the time to nurture your bond with your father? Don’t let procrastination hold you back. Reach out, make a call, or set a date for coffee. You never know the memories you might create.
May we learn to listen to the Holy Spirit’s promptings, and may we be quick to obey, that we might cherish every moment with our loved ones.
