From Self-Focus to True Fulfillment: Surrendering to God’s Plan

Rethinking Self-Importance: A Path to True Fulfillment

Growing up, many of us face significant challenges during our teenage years. But for some, like Bob Lepine, those years were a breeze. With a thriving social life, a lovely girlfriend, and leadership roles in school, Bob was living the high life. He even sang in choirs and a rock band! However, beneath the surface, Bob struggled with an ego problem. He thought that because life was good, he must be good too.

A Wake-Up Call

But when Bob entered college, his popularity and recognition began to wane. It was then that he realized he had been focused on himself rather than on God. The Bible opened his eyes to the dangers of pride, and he began to see himself in a new light. Christ transformed his life, refocusing and redirecting him towards a path of humility and service.

A Valuable Lesson

Bob’s story serves as a powerful reminder that true fulfillment comes not from our own accomplishments or self-importance, but from surrendering to God’s plan. As a friend of mine often says, “It’s not about you!” And she’s right. When we put our egos aside, we open ourselves up to God’s wonderful plan for our lives.

Embracing Humility

So, what does it mean to deny ourselves and take up our cross, as Jesus commands in Matthew 16:24? It means recognizing that our lives are not about us, but about serving and glorifying God. It means embracing humility and surrendering our own desires and ambitions to His will. When we do, we become God’s workmanship, created for a purpose that far surpasses our own limited understanding.
