Summer’s Gentle Reminder
As the warmth of summer sunshine chases away the chill of winter, it’s easy to forget the turbulent storms that once battered our lives. But on one particular morning, my heart felt like a tempestuous sea, weighed down by the needs of myself and others. It was as if a whirlwind of responsibilities had swept in, leaving me breathless.
A Peaceful Interlude
In that moment of chaos, I cast my burdens upon the Lord, and suddenly, my gaze fell upon a serene scene unfolding outside my window. Tall fir trees, steadfast and unmoving, lined our neighbor’s fence, a testament to their created purpose. Early summer flowers, without a whisper, proclaimed the faithfulness and love of their Creator. And then, a carefree sparrow flitted into view, reveling in the abundance provided by our heavenly Father. The tranquil atmosphere was a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing within me.
A Lesson from the Disciples
My thoughts drifted to a similar storm that had beset the disciples, one in which their Maker, Jesus, slumbered peacefully on a pillow. While they were consumed by fear and anxiety, Jesus, the Master of the universe, commanded the raging winds and waves to stillness. And, obediently, they subsided. Creation, in all its forms, finds solace in surrendering to the authority of its Creator, just as we are called to do: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10a).
The Power of Stillness
In the midst of life’s turbulence, we often forget the simplest yet most profound truth: He is God. This knowledge is all we need to find stillness, to anchor ourselves in His sovereignty. As we acknowledge His divine nature, we can tap into His strength, seeking the courage to be still, to trust, and to rest in His promises.
A Prayer of Gratitude
Father, thank you for the rest you offer to those who remember Your divine nature. May we seek Your strength to be still, to quiet our hearts, and to bask in the peace that only You can provide. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
